The Hui No‘eau Visual Arts Center is community-based arts education organization offering open access to quality visual arts instruction by teaching artists. Situated on the historic estate of Kaluanui, a former sugar plantation, the center consists of housing structures, stables, and a garage that have since been transformed into fully functioning working artist studios, fine art galleries, and classrooms.
My short-term residency here coincided with a solo show titled Dog and Pineapple Show in the main gallery of the historic Baldwin mansion. The ceramics studio was located in the old horse stables and was rustic with barn wood walls and dirt floors. There was plenty of open-air space with tables to work outside with beautiful mountain views.
