SEA LEVEL RISE
“Terrametric Markers“
2020 | ceramics, glaze, and steel | variable, 12” x 8’ ea.
Terrametric Markers is a sculpture and performance project I created to install on public shoreline land-based locations of San Francisco Bay. The sites I have chosen correlate with scientific predictions of tidal activity. I have identified specific areas of the coast that are most vulnerable to inundation due to Sea Level Rise, King Tides, and storm surge. These units pictured, activated on November 3rd, 2020, from an installation performance during a normal high tide at Blackie’s Pasture Beach in Tiburon. By placing them on the sloping beach at different altitudes, the markers indicated where normal high tides are predicted to be between 2020 and 2075 in 55 years.
